Warsaw LHCb Group
Objectives of the Large Hadron Collider beauty (LHCb) experiment run in CERN (Geneva) at the LHC accelerator include studies on CP violation and on other rare events occuring in decays of the B beauty mesons. The employed detectors include some RICH Cherenkov counters (used to identify particles), electromagnetic/hadron calorimeters, a muon detector, and some detectors responsible for reconstructing paths and momenta of the detected charged particles. Dectors that measure particle masses and decay times feature very good resolutions. The trigger may select both hadron and lepton end states. Taking into account the large brightness of the LHC accelerator and large cross sections for production of the particle of interest, the LHCb experiment is capable to extensively explore various channels of decay of particles containing beauty quarks.
