Abstract:
A review of experimental observations suggesting that Majorana-type quasi-particles are forming in nano-scale superconductors will be presented. Basic theoretical conceptions will also be reviewed. Conditions necessary to exist Majorana-type fermions as coherent superposition of electron/hole excitations will be discussed. A perspective of some applications of Majorana-type quasi-particles and challenges resulting from real physical constraints will be outlined.
