Abstract:

Galaxies, stars, planets, and our bodies consist of baryonic matter – mostly protons and neutrons. Nevertheless, such ordinary matter constitutes only 5% of the Universe; the rest is filled with two mysterious entities – dark matter and dark energy. Why scientists believe nowadays in their existence, what dark matter and dark energy could be and how they affect the past and the future of our Universe? There are a lot of hypotheses about the Standard Model extensions or WIMPs, sterile neutrinos, axions, mirror matter, etc. But what do we really know about dark matter and dark energy from astronomical observations, microwave background radiation, cosmology and dark matter particles search in underground laboratories?
