The presentation will focus on the severe accident analyses for PWR nuclear reactors. In the first part, severe accident phenomenology and MELCOR computer code will be discussed. In the second part, the example analysis performed in the framework of the WP5 NARSIS Horizon 2020 Project will be presented and discussed.
One of the most important external events affecting Nuclear Power Plants and other installations are earthquakes. International Atomic Energy Agency even says that in some cases, the risk caused by earthquakes can be comparable with the risk caused by an internally initiated event. Therefore proper earthquake influence on the facility should be validated. One of the tools for validation of earthquake impact that was recommended by IAEA in 1993 is the Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA).
A predictive science for many problems of interest requires advanced mathematical and computational tools that explain how the uncertainties, ubiquitous in all modeling and simulation efforts, affect our predictions and understanding of complex phenomena. This remains a fundamental difficulty in most modeling and simulation applications. There are many classification systems for the different uncertainties which occur in modeling and simulation. Most practical uncertainty frameworks are discipline-specific or model-specific.
